Post of a Post of a Post

I got this from Staple's blog, which he said he got from google:

• Sleep more - if you learn to take power naps, you will have more energy throughout the day. Although you may lose some time from napping, you will be able to work more efficiently, which will give you more time. [I'm 1000% down with this. This is what my most effective days look like. Wake up at 10am. In the office by 11am. Work till 7pm. Dinner and chill till around 9pm. Then take a nap till 11pm. Wake up and back to work (usually from home) till around 4am. Sleep 6 hrs and do it all again. If you're the type that needs 8 hrs of sleep, you can make up the shortage on the weekends. The 2 hour nap really allows for productive work in the midnight hours. Pulling a true all nighter with no sleep is a waste of time cuz you end up doing dumb shit anyway. Oh, and if you have a girl/boyfriend or wife/husband...this is a sure fired way to make the relationship go to hell.]

Here's my ideal day:

Wake up at 8:30, go to the gym. Come back home eat and shower surf the web a bit, start working at around 10, work until around 3. I find that after around 3 I'm not very efficient. Since my mind is going to wander I might as well go surf the net or watch an episode of Entourage. 5pm think about the people getting off work at their 9-5's. At around 9 get back to work and finish at around midnight or 1am. Surf the net some more, e-mail people, blog go to bed at 3am.

I do this quite often, I would insert a day every few weeks where my body breaks down and I have a day of uncontrollable sleep unable to wake up.

I need a full time job that would let me do this. If I do find this job I guarantee that I would be a lifer there and I would exceed any expectations that they have of me. Cause in this ideal work situation I am just THAT good.

Foody

Man, Matt is stepping up his blog game.

He is one of the few friends that I have.

He also likes to tell it like it is.

Maybe his next food challenge should be documenting himself going to a restaurant and then trying to make that dish at home. Could be interesting.

I ate out 3 times this weekend.

weirdness and other items of interest

Hey I seen the Delorean again today. I wonder who owns it.

I watched the 4th episode of Entourage today, seriously why don't they make it an our long show.

I'm procrastinating right now.

There are wasps in my place, I have to get rid of a few of them on a daily basis. I had a dream about them the other day. It wasn't pleasant.

Meow.

Internet everywhere

When I was traveling about I thought it would be great if I had a small device that would let me surf the net with wifi. This was a few years back before the iphone and the iPod touch. I remember when I heard that they were gong to have the opera browser on the nintendo DS I thought that would be a nice cheap wifi surfing device. Now that the iPhone and the Touch is out it is the best option for a nice portable wifi surfing device. As I am typing this post on Jasmine's Touch, I reminise about my days traveling looking for Internet cafes and web connections at the hostels.

I gotta get used to blogging on the Touch.

inspiration

I've been meaning to post for the last little while. I was caught up on 3 projects that took up a bunch of my time.

I ended my summer of concerts with Alicia Keys. What a nice venue (the Orpheum), I wish I can go to more concerts there.

I felt inspired this morning. I was watching some interviews and I felt very creative. I haven't had that feeling in a long time. Typically my creativity stems from projects from clients, I say it's like a faucet, I have to turn it on and off when I need it too. I also pride myself my creative development in this manner. I treat it like a craft that you can hone much like glass blowing or wood working and etc.

But creative inspiration for my personal projects are like a leak from a spring, doesn't happen often and I very much appreciate it when it happens. I feel motivated, I'm going to get my ass in gear tomorrow and buy some supplies.

I'll probably do a series of posts today. I have some down time for the day, kinda.
It's more like procrastination

The yeti and the unicorn

I always think about how great it would be to own a nice MacBook Pro. I can use it and do presentations, work at remote offices, just have all the files that I hold near and dear with me at all times.

The thing is I always have this want of owning this machine. Really it doesn't cost that much, it's not an Audi or something like that. I guess over the past couple years getting a MacBook Pro has been this easily attainable item that I can not attain. For some reason I like the wanting of the MacBook Pro then the owning the MacBook Pro. It's like a mythical creature, I should really buy it already.

Well if I buy it, what will I be yearning for next? At least the MacBook Pro is practical. I know a camera.

Camera

I always have this thing with camera's. Or I should say digital cameras. When I got my first digital camera I was using it endlessly. I thought what a great concept, I can take as many pictures as I want. I went to Europe and took a ton of pics on the 2 megapixel camera with a movie mode without sound. As I moved to my second digital camera, I took it with me to Asia, I took a gang of pictures, but I was frustrated with the inability to take decent pics with the compact camera. Now I'm on to my 3 compact digital, no big trip to go with it. I seem to always want a new compact camera, thinking that I would use it.

Lately I have little interest in taking pictures. I'm not sure why. Is my so called compact camera just a little too big? Or is it because I'm tired of everybody being a shutterbug?

I dunno, but I do feel like getting yet another camera that I will hardly use.

G9 and D90 someone hook me up, I got $50 for you.

The Offer

A company has made me an offer for a fulltime job. Will my dream of working hard hardly working end? They didn't make me an offer I couldn't refuse so I have some thinking to do.

I'm starting to get more projects then I can handle. I'm not complaining but I'm starting to get stressed out about it.

Silk

I designed the pattern for this silk dress. It's on a series of garments, the silk scarf is my favorite. It's part of an "artist" series. But really I did all the work to make it what it is. Girls love it.

Folder: Sept 2008

A little while ago I would start a folder in my graphics folder named after the month and year. In these folders I would do my personal work. Experiments with portraits, random designs that I do for fun, playing around with typography. I also fill it with random images that I like. These folders are like snap shots of my life. My own personal drawings that I only do for myself. I noticed that lately I have been skipping making these folder. I guess I don't need them because I haven't been doing any personal work. Maybe it's a sign, I'm doing a little too much work for pay and not enough for my soul.

The funny thing is when I take on a client that I get a bad vibe from I feel like I'm selling my soul to the devil. I look back on all these skipped months of personal work is almost like, soul, almost empty.

Badminton

I went away to Jasmine's cabin this past weekend. One of the things which I realized was that I'm actually getting better at sports as I get older. I believe it's because I'm actually getting bigger, stronger, faster. Well not faster, just bigger and stronger. I find that I think differently, I can approach things in a different way when I play sports. I mean I'm still not the most athletic guy, but I can say that I am way better then when I was in highschool.

I played a few rounds of badminton while I was at Jasmine's cabin, I haven't played badminton since I was maybe 13 years old. I can honestly say that I'm way better at it now just picking it up for the first time then when I was younger.

I have this love hate thing with sports. I really enjoyed it as a kid, but as I got older I found myself not being a very competitive person. I'm the kind of guy that would rather lose in a fun way then win and be all angry and grumpy afterwards.

As I say all the time, the only thing I'm competitive in is Graphic Design.

I guess I'm just saving all my energy to crush the competition. (whoa aggro)
