I actually spend that much. I'm actually pretty good with my money. I got this rather big Visa bill this month. I decided that I should start using cash only for a bit. I want to clean out my visa account. (I still have to pay for Vegas on my Visa, and Alicia Keys too if I manage to get tickets)
I'm having a busy week, it's a good thing. That means I'll have money coming in sometime soon.
I didn't eat a proper dinner today, granola and soy milk that was it.
Making some noodles and dumplings now.
I'm actually really busy, I'm working more then 8 hours a day now.
Out of the woodwork I got a few gigs.
Enough about work.
Derrick bought a new bike.
The new Mac rumor is that the new MacBook Pro is coming out soon.
I like how that dude in the video below used his eye sight camera to take a pic of his drawing instead of scanning it in. I think I'm going to do that too. Maybe.
I bought Lumines used for my PS2.
Here's how the game looks like on xbox
My Seiko monster diver is not a very comfortable watch. My other Seiko diver looks like a Submariner. I guess it's a poor man's Submariner. I really like that watch.
I'm content these days.

Who I am
I was thinking in the shower. Sometimes I come up with the best ideas or have the most rational thoughts while I'm in the shower. I swear half my professional career was spawned from ideas that I have in the shower.
I had a thought about my friends, yes while I was showering.
I thought I about who they were and what their strengths were. Here's a breakdown of my thoughts:
Dru, I always thought that this guy has the keys to succeed. Sometimes he lets his vices gets the best of him i.e. buying tons of stuff and getting in debt. But that's who we are we are; a group of people that like stuff. I know that Dru will find his way and do one of his, "holy shit why didn't I do this sooner" waiting to exhale moments. I'm not sure why but sometimes I feel like Dru is like my brother from another mother, we are different but same all at the same time.
Danny, when I was thinking of him I thought about Kanye's song "Big Brother". I didn't realize it until now but he is in some ways like the older brother that I want to beat. He has a quiet confidence, he's successful has a level head and I always admired his work ethic. Seeing Danny succeed gives me strength to want to succeed, I want to follow his lead. Danny is Optimus Prime.
Derrick, he's one of the most loyal and genuine people that I know. He's good at whatever he puts his mind to. I mean if he really wanted something nothing can stop him. I knew that when he was going into his position at the bank that he would do well and excel, I had no doubt in my mind. Now he's going into his new job and I know he will again succeed. Derrick is one of the key people that shaped my life at an early age. He introduced me to Hip Hop music, BMX, and the importance of dope gear.
Nelson, I'm glad that I got to get to know him better over the past year and a bit. I can't say I know many more people that have a stronger sense of honor then this guy. Literally if he was back in the olden days he would be one of those samurai's or warriors that follow a code of honor to the death. I know his secret of getting girls it's because he's the strong silent type, I gotta work on that technique.
Norman, where ever Derrick left off Norman filled in any other gaps that shaped who I am today. There is no way I am the way I am without Norman in my life. Art, music, design, any and everything that I love was at one point an influence from Norman. This man embodies almost every facet of how I think about everybody in the group. I feed off of Norman's creative energy and I learned from his work ethic. I can't say enough about this guy.
Richard, I know he probably doesn't think I think this but often times when I think of Rich I think of strength. This undeniable strength in a person. Rich encouraged me early on to be creative, even when I was at a point where I barely picked up a pencil or even owned a computer. The good things that he has said to me in the past still echo's in my mind. There is strength in his words and I truly believe that once he starts harnessing his strength this is no possible way he cannot get anything that he wants in life. Rich is a man that draws people in, he radiates good karma and it's a reflection of his strength inside.
Birds of a feather flock together, my friends are a key part of who I am.

Vince

Posts
In my old blog I would post about work stuff. I actually have a few work related things that I can post but I'm not going to. I have to be cryptic all the time because most of the time it's for things that aren't going to be released for a while and blah blah blah.
I like it that I'm keeping my work related stuff to a minimum, I guess I'm learning not to let work comsume my life. Or maybe it's because it's summer and I'm developing a nice tan so far. Either or either or.
Here's a pic of Mr Met, I like him, he makes me happy.

Denim
I actually watched this show quite a bit when I was in Tokyo. The first shop that Gordon visits is one that I went to while I was there. It was actually a few blocks from where I stayed. It brings back memories.

regeneration

I always had this thought about how people would start over their lives. As we go along in life we collect things, shoes, clothes, memories, scars, music etc.
Sometimes all the things that we own and collect start to own us. Car payments weigh us down, past experiences prevent us from doing certain things.
What if a person and regenerate their lives from scratch?
I mean a person would take steps to rid themselves of everything they owned. Therapeutically you don't burn all your clothes or throw everything away. You take steps to give away the things you cherish to people that you cherish. You donate things to charity, you sell your home and car in preparation for your regeneration.
After everything is gone, you take a long shower, cut your hair, wash your old life away. You are given a kit, in that kit is the bare essentials that you need to start over. You have 3 plain t-shirts, 1 white dress shirt, 1 pair of jeans, handful of plain socks and underwear, 1 hoody, 1 army looking jacket, some simple sneakers, an ipod, a digital camera, a laptop (preferably a MacBook Pro). You are given a room with a bed, a chair, a desk and a large window.
Then you have a month to set out on your new life.
With the minimalist life, you have shed all your physical attachments. Now you can train to lose all your mental attachments, issues of self doubt, things you were afraid of doing. This is your chance now, you have a clean slate to work with, you can not let your old experience stop you from creating whatever you want with your life.
This is the creation of an actual second life. You made all these steps to push the reset button and now you get to start your life all over again.
I don't know if I would have the strength to do this, but I find it to be an interesting concept.
Love,
Vince
To match Rich's Kanye posts....
I don't think I have out right said this before but Kanye is a huge influence in my life. When he says that the people needs his songs he's right. There are a lot of rappers that claim this but in this instance it is actually true. I honestly do not think my life would be the same without his music.
I'm not sure why people would dislike Kanye, people who can't stand his bragging or his ego. I get my strength from his actions. This guy changed the way I viewed my life. Listen to "Through the Wire" and "Spaceships" and tell me that doesn't move you to make something of yourself.
You have to be a complete asshole to say you don't like his music. If you think I'm on his jock then I'm going to say a big "fuck you" to you cause you seriously don't know shit.

Vince
Knew Technolomagie
People that know me well know I don't have the best tech gear. I have a free TV from Dru (thanks Dru). I don't own a DVD player. I don't have any of the latest game systems.
Matt recently gave me a PS2 (thanks Matt) so now I have a PS2 after PS3 came out over a year ago. Basically outside of my computer all the tech gadgets I have are obsolete.
What I favor are hand held gadgets, Nintendo DS, iPods, MacBooks, digital camera's. I like anything that you can take with you that doesn't tie you down.I just find owning a 42 inch LCD TV can be too much responsibility for me, but a nice MacBook Pro I can take care of that.
The only reason why I got the 24" iMac over a MacBook Pro is because I favor working on a large screen, I just got a accustomed to it.
I gotta say it is nice to own a video game system that doesn't require me to get the analog converter so that I can hook it up to the TV. I'm mad sleepy right now but I feel like playing some video games.
Gotta resist.

Wonderful Weekend
Friday was a small celebration for Elaine and Jasmine's birthday's. Amazing BBQ spread cooked up by Danny. Here's a pic I stole from Nel's album:

On Saturday we went to the Stevie Wonder, here's a clip of the concert that I found on youtube:
I ended the weekend with a Sunday watching a Canadian's baseball game at Nat Bailey, eating Sushi and hanging out at the beach and playing Rock Band until 4 am with Derrick and Nel.

I ended up having Rock Band dreams last night.

Rich

Today for the first time in a long time Rich, Derrick and I went to the gym together. We warmed up for AN HOUR playing basketball. We played King of the Court up to three points. Rich won 5 games, Derrick and I won 2 a piece.
Speaking of Rich he just told me today that his other blog went live a week ago:
SNEAKERPEDIA
Aight enough about Rich.

Logos
I was thinking a lot about logos lately. About how important this one thing is, something that could be so simple that needs to say a multitude of things for companies.
Of course we can not talk about logos without mentioning everybody's favorite: Paul Rand
I was talking with Rich today about the Undefeated logo, about how much we both love it. It's something so simple yet so strong. Five hash marks, that's all it is, pure genius. Hey Rich I found the design company that did their logo, peep it here.
Another one of my favorites is the Bounty Hunter logo done by these guys.
As you know from my older entries I got dropped on branding a restaurant, here is what I came up with for them:

To end this entry on a high note, here's a few logos that I designed that I really like:

Da Vinci Sleep Schedule
I'm in the process of making some pot stickers at 1 am in the morning. I have a bit more work to do so i guess I'll be up until 3 am or so. While I was in the kitchen preparing to make my delicious dumplings I had a thought about the Da Vinci sleeping schedule where you would sleep every 4-5 hours for about a half hour or so instead of a night of sleeping to maximize your awake time. I actually did something like this today. I would work on a design, nap, work on another graphic, nap, eat, nap, went out to donate an old computer, nap. I don't know if it would work out for me since it didn't work out for Kramer when he tried it in Seinfeld. Well it was a TV show and it's not real. But I have gone through bouts of sleeping 4 hours or so for months on end. It usually ends with me crashing one day and sleeping a whole day away and not being able to get out of bed even if I wanted to. I guess my body just had enough.
Here's a random thought have you ever had your nerve in your shoulder get pinched when you sleep. I woke up once and I had no feeling in my arm, as if it wasn't part of my body it was limp, I had to lift it up with my other arm. After a while you would get some feeling back but it's not a pleasant experience.
I got my Mathmos light in the mail today. It came pretty damn fast.
I got this other round lamp from Ikea yesterday. I'm all about lights.

My restaurant logo thing fell apart. I'm not on that project anymore. Oh well, I'm curious what they'll end up going with.
I think I'll post what I submitted to them in another post.
Rich beat me in basketball today, 6 to 11.
My dumplings are done.
